Report: #0186
Is this
something fossilized, or is it just a game of geological rocks?
A landslide
has uncovered something interesting on Mars. Was it something that grew there?
It is image
number 1P274394321ESF90PDP2445L2M1 taken by the Mars Rover Opportunity on Sol
1647—that is, September 11, 2008, at 12:38 here on Earth. At first glance, you
see the usual: sand, stones, and nothing up to the horizon.
A small
incline, an accident in the flat environment of a few meters, is at the bottom
of the image.
Well, let's
analyze another image.
No, stop! What's this around here? Strange rocks. Yes.
Let's enlarge a bit. What poor resolution. But
we can increase it a little. Good.
Look no
further. What do we have here? Rocks with such conical shapes.
All with a
point like roots of some vegetable here on Earth. What needs a conical point
when it's under the ground? Could it be something alive or was something alive?
Something
that moves or moved underground, or something that grew underground—or in this
case, under the soil of Mars.
Due to the impact beside it, it could be that this part of the earth collapsed, or, due to thawing in summer, the soil loosened and freed a few centimeters of ground. I estimate it's half a meter that opened up and exposed these things.
If this
discovery were on Earth, I think they would take all of it to a lab to clean it
and see if it's a fossil, something petrified, or simply a geological game and
nothing biological from Martian nature.
I can't
define it either. I hope some scientist or geologist tells us clearly what it
is. In the meantime, we archive it as something very particular and probably
very close to something related to life on Mars.
